Embossed book

 

  For this tutorial you will need: Sinedots filter - download here
FM Tile Tools is not a free filter, but they have demo version in which you will be able to use 3 filters - download here
Texturizer filter which is located in your Photoshop plugin folder.

 

1. Open a new canvas 300x400. With path tool shape=rectangle, mode=2D, color is not important - draw a rectangle. Right click on it and duplicate. With pick tool click and drag your duplicated rectangle in workspace - it will create a new canvas. Right click in your new canvas and merge all. Go to Edit/Fill and chose magic gradient - click on Edit color and pick up 13 color palette. Change mode to 8 and click OK. Right click and select all. Convert to object. Go to Effects/Dragon Fly/Sinedots and applay these settings:

2. Right click on your sinedots image and merge all. Save it as jpg file in directory of your chose - just remember where. Now we will return to our book. With pick tool select the rectangle you made. Click on path drawing tool and change mode to 3D and border to 2. Click on material icon, in Color/Texture window click on File and navigate to your sinedots file. Do the same thing with Bump and Reflection, click OK. Go to Effects/Texturizer chose Sandstone with relief 1 - click OK. Go to Effects/FM Tile Tool/Blend Emboss and aplay default settings. Duplicate your rectangle. With transform tool make it narrow. Change mode to slant and pull down the bottom left corner - you should get something similar to picture.
3. Click on white area of canvas to disselect your objects. With path tool shape=rectangle, color=light gray, mode=3D - draw a rectangle as shown.
4. With transform tool slant mode transform rectangle in way it fits the book cover. You will need to adjust also width.
5.Change your gray rectangle object type from path to image. It will be better to zoom in your image. With paintbrush size=1, soft edges=0, color=darker shade of gray, lines=straight - draw a several horizontal lines across your gray rectangle. Zoom out. Select your top cover rectangle and duplicate it. Send back and adjust the width to fit your book.
6. You can pass with burn tool your cover, but it is optional. To add text - place your text where you want on book. Go Effects/Creative/Type and chose Imprint. Right click on color box, pick eyedropper and chose color from your book. Click OK.
